1 PERSON GIVEN FIRST AID FOLLOWING KITCHEN FIRE IN BRADING – Island Echo

Firefighters from Sandown and Shanklin are tackling a small kitchen fire at a residential property in Brading this evening (Thursday).

2 appliances are on scene at Lower Furrlongs, where it’s understood items have been left on the hob.

Fire crews have utilised a hose reel jet and are now using positive pressure ventilation to rid lingering smoke from the property.

A thermal imaging camera is also being used to check for any hotspots.

Meanwhile, 1 male is currently receiving first aid for the effects of smoke inhalation. An ambulance has been requested at the scene, but the matter is being described as ‘precautionary’.

UPDATE @ 20:03 Island Echo is told that items left beside the hob caught alight, but that the family were able to safely evacuate thanks to fitted and working smoke alarms.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were also called out to a cooker fire in Rookley this afternoon. Crews from Newport and Shanklin were mobilised at around 15:45.

UPDATE @ 20:14 – The incident is being scaled down with Sandown’s appliance standing down from the incident.

1 pump remains on scene whilst awaiting the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
