We all have a checklist when searching for a new house; for many, it’s a bigger garden, for others, a quiet road away from the hustle and bustle. However, for some, it’s the presence of period features that really catch their eye. From historic beams and decorative cornicing, to inglenook fireplaces and sash windows, older properties are bursting with character.

The question is, where do we find these homes with history?

Luckily, a new survey from Zoopla has looked at the number of properties for sale with period features, as well as the number of properties that are listed as either Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian or Tudor, to find out which areas you should focus your search in.

And coming in at number one? London.

The capital is the region that has the most period properties for sale, with nearly one in five (19%) possessing character features. In terms of borough, Haringey comes out on top, with more Edwardian, Victorian, Georgian and Tudor era properties than anywhere else in London (30% to be precise).

In fact, London dominates the ranking, with seven locations in the city making it into the top 10. They include Waltham Forest and Hammersmith and Fulham.
