A historic U.K. estate in Dartmoor National Park is on the market with a guide price of £5.5 million (US$7.64 million).

The seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion in Devon, a coastal county in South West England, dates to the 17th century, and has royal ties to the likes of Henry VII and Henry VIII. It sits on close to 250 acres, according to the listing, which hit the market with Knight Frank earlier this month.

“It’s an amazing setting with a beautiful view and access to Dartmoor,” said Will Matthews, a partner at Knight Frank’s country department. “It’s a pretty rare asset. It’s getting harder and harder to find places with this much privacy and land.”

The property is thought to have been a hunting site for royals during the Tudor era, but was sold by the Crown in 1578, according to the listing. Construction on Yarner Manor, as the home is known, started in 1630 and was completed 1678.

There are also several out buildings on the property.

The style is reminiscent of a French chateau, and it has a Grade II* designation, meaning it’s been deemed an important building of more than special interest, according to Historic England, a preservation organization.

The same family has owned the estate for more than 50 years, Mr. Matthews said. Most recently, they have used it as a wedding venue and bed and breakfast. Mansion Global could not determine how much the owners paid for the property, and they did not immediately respond to comment.

Mr. Matthews noted they recently revamped the property, including updated bedroom suites and bathrooms.

“Everything is in good condition,” he said. “One of the highlights is the dining hall. They call it the ‘Scandinavian Hall’ because that’s their ancestry, and it’s really an amazing room.”

It features exposed beams and a fireplace with oversized windows and French doors leading to the grounds, according to the listing.

Other amenities include a breakfast room, a study, a summer house at the end of the large garden and a tennis court, albeit in need of refurbishing. There’s also a four-bedroom, two-bathroom farmhouse and a farm with several outbuildings and more than 70 acres of pasture, the listing said.

The market for these historic properties surrounded by land has been strong for some years, Mr. Matthews said, but the Covid-19 pandemic “supersized it.” And the flood of buyers looking for more space in less dense areas doesn’t seem to be slowing.

Earlier this month, a nearby estate asking £1.6 million met with a bidding war after fewer than two weeks on the market, Mansion Global reported.
