9 of the cheapest properties that are currently for sale in Wales

House prices in Wales are said to be at their highest levels for many years, but there are still properties on the market for less than £60,000.

It’s likely that such buildings would need renovations though, incurring additional costs, such as planning consent, but they present a development opportunity.

Others listed for below this price may be going to auction and therefore these properties may actually end up being sold for much higher amounts of money.

Our sister site WalesOnline has identified several properties in the country that you can currently find for around £60,000 or lower, including one in North Wales.

It’s worth noting that such properties may require work and you’ll need to contact the estate agents to find out specific details. This will give an idea of the market though.

Ammanford, Carmarthenshire: £1

This property in Ammandford is soon to go to auction

It’s unlikely that this derelict detached building is going to be sold for less than a takeaway coffee at the online auction and it’s going to need quite a bit of development.

The auction house selling the two-storey property states that it’s suitable for conversion into either a residential or a commencial building – subject to planning consents.

Hiding under the crumbling facade are signs of characters with period brickwork and plenty of opportunities for windows, to let the light flood in.

There’s much work to be done on this property, including getting planning permission, but the project could be worth it if the hammer falls at a very, very low price.

Taylor James Auctions, in Birmingham, auctioning the property, said it’s for sale by online public auction on July 8 with remote bidding. You must pre-register to bid no later than 8am on July 8. Call 0121 827 8960 to find out more.

This terrace home in the village of Pontwelly includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, a lounge, a sitting room and a kitchen spread across its three-storeys.

There’s even a balcony at the back of the property that offers an elevated view out over the river Teifi and is a perfect outdoor spot for the occupants to relax on.

It offers lovely river and country views but the estate agent states that the lower floor did suffer a recent food, so the property is sold as seen. Contact John Francis at their Lampeter branch on 01570 540029 for more information.

Swansea: £45,000+

This property is said to have been ‘taken back to brick’ – so you can see the bones of the place. It may look a bit shocking to anyone inexperienced in renovation though.

There are two reception rooms, a lean-to kitchen/utility and one bedroom upstairs. And there’s currently a double-height semi-vaulted ceiling exposed in the rear reception.

It’s worth noting that some points about the sale need discussing further with the auction house, including when it will be sold and the issue of securing a mortgage.

The auction house states: “Please be advised that whilst viewings are restricted, the property will not be entered into online auction until the legal pack is complete and there is sufficient interest for bidding to commence.”

This terrace house, described as ‘frozen in time,’ is said to be hiding design classics from eras of the past, including bright yellow kitchen units and fake wood wall panelling.

There are three reception rooms at ground level with three bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor. There’s also a rear garden and a surprise extra floor which isn’t obvious from the street – a lower ground kitchen.

The property therefore offers a lot of space but it also needs a fair amount of renovation, so it’s cash buyers only.

And whilst there’s damp and aging interiors, there are period features to discover including cornicing, Minton floor tiles, a bay window, some original internal panelled doors and some original floorboards.

This former country church, near Brecon, could be transformed into a rural home though you’ll need to get planning and have a budget for the project.

The property is of a simple, square structure with an open porch on the south side, five large windows and a big chance to create a stunning home.

The unlisted building is sold with a small area of land and with all ecclesiastical furniture removed – and any change of use or development is subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents.

It’s worth noting that whilst an area of land to the west is included in the sale, the remaining land will be retained by the vendor and will continue to be used as a burial ground.

A pedestrian right of access will be reserved for the vendor and legitimate visitors to the retained burial ground. The buyer will be responsible for erecting a new boundary and gateway between the sold and retained land to a specification to be agreed in writing with the vendor.

This traditional stone terrace is already on the renovation road with the destination a pretty and cute abode in the heart of the Rhondda Fach valley.

A new owner can finish what someone else has begun, potentially turning the house into an investment rental property or for a first-time buyer.

The good-sized bathroom in particular appears usable and it’s found upstairs alongside two double bedrooms.

It looks like elements of a new kitchen have turned up on site but it would be wise to check with the estate agent what is, and more what isn’t, included in the sale.
