A look inside the cheapest detached property in Somerset

Have you ever wondered what it would look like inside the cheapest house in Somerset?

Well currently on the market sits a cottage in Dulverton which has not been occupied since 1940.

Potential is the keyword here – with the detached property on the market for £80,000.

As you can see, there is not much that remains inside this house.

It almost feels quite haunted, with what looks like a fireplace alongside a very worn cupboard and work surface.

However, the unique location of the cottage could make this an ideal restoration project for a developer or somebody with a vision.

The interior has been left untouched for years

Nestled away in the quiet Brendan Hills, it sits in Exton, a small hamlet in the beautiful Exe Valley at the heart of the Exmoor National Park.

Walks to the surrounding area are close and easily accessible, perhaps making this an ideal countryside retreat after renovation.

It even has its own small garden and off-street parking.

Planning permission will however be subject to a Locality Clause imposed due to its location in a National Park.

Again, the garden will probably need some work, but if you’re going to renovate the house, you may as well improve the garden right?

Rightmove states “Restoring the property to residential use (subject to planning) could provide a charming two-bedroom cottage.

“The current planning status is ‘unregularised’, meaning that simply by its age, the planning authority has no documentation on record to describe its use, although it is thought to have once been a cobbler’s cottage and used as a dwelling until approximately 1940”.

The current owners already have architects drawings for the proposed restoration of the property which are available from the selling agent.

These plans however have not been submitted for planning consent.

Fancy a challenge? Well, this could be the property for you.
