About the Bureau

The Bureau is the UK’s largest independent non-profit investigative journalism organisation. In the last year, our investigations have been published in 105 countries across local, national, international, specialist, TV and digital platforms. Our four global investigative teams work with reporters around the world on priority cross-border issues – environment, health, enablers and Big Tech – and our Bureau Local team focuses on the UK, including on issues such as employment, homelessness and health inequality. Founded in 2010, we’ve grown from a small group of journalists to a diverse team to deliver hard-hitting investigations that have prompted inquiries, sparked legal challenges and informed policy change.

Our fundraising

Our funders and supporters are absolutely vital. We’re entirely funded through grants and donations so without their support, we wouldn’t be here. The organisation has grown significantly over the past three years in terms of our impact, outlook and size. We’ve increased yearly, building our income to £2.8m a year (forecast for 2022) and have an exceptional team of more than 40 people. The majority of our income comes from grants and there is strong potential for further fundraising growth, with a particular focus on diversifying our income streams beyond grants.

To apply

The Bureau is committed to being an equal opportunity employer. We strive to create a diverse, inclusive and adaptable environment where people are motivated and supported to do their best work. We strongly encourage applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in the media, as we are committed to building a team with a diverse set of skills, experiences and perspectives.

You will need to have the right to live and work in the UK.

Potential candidates should send a CV and cover letter to our head of operations, Juliet, at [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, though we aim to schedule interviews in the week of 23 May.

Please also fill out our anonymous equality monitoring form here, so we can better track who we are reaching.

We are being supported in making this appointment by Jago Channell Executive Search. He can be reached at [email protected], for a confidential discussion. You are also welcome to speak to our current director of development, Susie Billings, at [email protected].
