A Bath-headquartered independent retailer has secured a multi-million pound funding package to expand its operations.

Graham & Green, on Walcot Street, said it would use the cash from Barclays to buy a new 100,000 sq ft freehold property on Canal Road Industrial Estate in Trowbridge. The firm said the plan was to create extra storage following a rise in customer demand.

Founded in 1974 by Antonia Graham, Graham & Green opened its first store in Notting Hill, in London, selling furniture and homeware imported from India, Morocco and Europe.

The business, which employs more than 100 staff, is now run by Ms Graham’s son Jamie and his partner Lou. The retailer moved its headquarters to Somerset in 2016 and the pair now run five stores including three in London as well as Bath and Chippenham.

Darren Murphy, director of finance and company operations at Graham & Green, said: ” The new warehouse will give us that additional space to continue to grow our emporium of treasures.”

Martin Crook, Barclays relationship director, Bath, added: “Graham & Green has achieved significant success and has built a great reputation with consumers.

“I’m pleased that we can support the firm’s strategic plans and provide the facilities for the next chapter of their business growth. Barclays is committed to using our industry expertise to support such propositions, which are vital to the local economy and I wish them every success in the future.”
