Bellway is to build 138 apartments at the entrance to a new section of Ebbsfleet Garden City after securing planning consent from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation.

The Castle Grange development will be delivered by Bellway London Partnerships in Alkerden Village, part of the former Eastern Quarry.

Castle Grange will sit on the Fastrack transport route, with bus services to Dartford, Ebbsfleet International railway station and Bluewater, as well as cycling and pedestrian links.

One quarter of the homes will be designated as affordable housing, to be made available to local people through rent or shared ownership.

Bill Kenneally, Regional Director for Bellway London Partnerships, said: “Bellway remains firmly committed to Ebbsfleet Garden Village, with planning consent in place for hundreds of homes within the development area. Castle Grange is of particular importance due to its prominence on the edge of Alkerden Village. Our plans have evolved through discussions with the local authority to ensure the scheme meets their aspirations for the gateway to the village. The brick-built apartment blocks have been designed to create a striking entrance while reflecting the architectural heritage of the area. Two grey brick buildings will frame the development and a bespoke balcony design will enhance the visual appeal. The Fastrack transport links make this a highly sustainable location where people can comfortably live without owning a car. For those who do, electric car charging points will be provided to encourage more environmentally friendly travel. We will also provide secure cycle stores.”

Every home at Castle Grange will have a balcony or private terrace. There will be landscaped areas with outdoor seating and a pocket park with a children’s play area.

The development is located next to the Education Campus. It will be home to a primary school, a nursery, sports facilities and Ebbsfleet Garden City’s first new secondary school.

Castle Grange will also border Alkerden Market Centre, where shops, business units and community facilities will be provided.

Building work is expected to start at the site early next year.
