Burnley named the cheapest place to rent property in UK

New research has revealed the cheapest places to rent property in the UK – and the most affordable is in East Lancs with two other Lancashire towns also making the top 10.

The research, conducted by PlumbNation, analysed numerous factors, such as monthly wages, number of jobs, safety, cost of utilities and the average rental cost to reveal which locations are the best for renters, and which are the most affordable.

According to the findings, three Lancashire towns are among the best in the UK for renters looking for a bargain.

PlumbNation found that the least expensive rental location in the whole of the UK is the East Lancashire town of Burnley, where the average monthly rent is £506.

The average monthly rent in Burnley is less than half the national average of £1,068 per month and over £1,800 less than the most expensive place to rent.

It beat the Yorkshire towns of Halifax and Doncaster which made up the top three.

Other Lancashire areas also made the list, including Blackpool which was named sixth cheapest rental location in the UK; here, the average monthly rent is £600.

Blackburn came in at number nine and the average monthly rent is £607.

At the other end of the table was Oxford which is the most expensive place for renters in Britain, with an average monthly rent of £2,357, followed by Bath where rents are £2,115 on average and Brighton where it is £2,014.

The same study also uncovered the best overall places to rent in the UK by studying numerous factors such as: monthly wages, number of jobs, safety, cost of bills such as heating and water, and most importantly the average rental cost.

Using this data, they PlumbNation have been able to reveal the best towns and cities to rent in, and the ones that should be avoided.

According to the findings, Preston is the fourth best places to rent in the UK with an average score of 6.98/10.

While it may be one of the most affordable for renters, Blackpool didn’t match up when considering other life factors.

With a score of 3.14/10, it was named the fifth worst town to rent when safety, utilities, job availability and income are considered.
