CHAMBER TO HELP ANIMAL CHARITIES: The Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber at its annual meeting has partnered with Angels for Animals and the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County to help with their mission to provide care for animals.
Items the organizations need will be collected. All donors will be entered in a raffle. At the conclusion of the event, four winners of $25 gift cards to various locations will be chosen.
Items needed for Angels for Animals include Fancy Feast Kitten Pate, canned dog and cat food, peanut butter, EZCheese, old bath towels, newspapers, cat litter, cat beds, carriers, Milk-Bones, latex gloves and gift cards.
For their garage sale, old office supplies such as copy paper, note pads, decorations and similar products are being collected.
Animal Welfare League needed items include microwavable heating pads / discs, Miracle Nipple brand nursing nipples, kitten pate and litter scoopers for cats and kittens. For puppies and dogs, the items include Dog Chow and Puppy Chow, medium and small nylon collars and pill pockets.
The annual meeting is 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave., Boardman.
717 AMONG TOP CREDIT UNIONS: 717 Credit Union has been named to the list of the top 100 credit unions in the United States and the top-performing credit union in Ohio for the second straight year. It was the only Ohio credit union to make the list and ranked 57th in the nation for the best-performing credit unions by S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Of the nearly 5,300 credit unions in the U.S., 1,765 qualified for the ranking by meeting a threshold of at least $100 million in assets and a net worth ratio of at least 7 percent.
The rankings, based on 2021 year-end numbers, used five criteria: member growth; total number of loans, net of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loans, per member; net worth as a percentage of total assets; delinquent loans as a percentage of total loans, net of PPP Loans; and return on average assets.
YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR EVENT SET: On April 30, Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley, in partnership with the Eastwood Mall, will host a one-day Youth Market Day 11 a.m. to 2 pm. The event will feature young entrepreneurs who will offer their products and services for sale to the public.
Young entrepreneurs are responsible for their table setup, product sales and interacting with customers. Tables will be provided, courtesy of the Eastwood Mall. Judging and prizes will be awarded at the end of the event.
Customers will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite business, and awards will be given to the winners of three categories: People’s Choice Award, Best of Show-Most Creative and Best Product, and Most Original. Each winner will receive a $50 mall gift card, the Entrepreneur Game Board and certificate.
The People’s Choice Award winner also will receive a kiosk rent-free for a limited time.
The awards ceremony will be 2 p.m. at the mall’s center court.

ODOT SEEKS INPUT: The Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking the public’s input on its state freight plan, Transport Ohio, which looks at the state of the freight industry in Ohio now and for the next five years.
The plan analyzes the needs of the state’s road, rail, air cargo, maritime and pipeline networks. It includes freight-system strategies focusing on coordination, partnerships, innovation and technology for ODOT to implement over the next five years and recommends freight system investments.
ODOT is seeking the public’s review and comments on the draft plan. The public comment period is open until Sunday. The draft can be downloaded at the Transport Ohio website. Once reviewed, feedback can be shared by taking a brief survey at PublicInput.com / TransportOhio.

FIRMS PARTNER: Four local real estate brokerages have teamed up for a group marketing campaign to promote local brokerages headquartered in the Mahoning Valley.

Choosen as the spokesman was Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini because he, according to a release, “epitomizes the qualities of the brokerages and our Valley — heart, no-quit attitude and a love of family and friends.”
TRAVEL SEMINAR SCHEDULED: Boscov’s Business Travel will host a free breakfast and presentation on the benefits of a having a travel management company 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Eastwood Event Centre at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
Among the topics planned for the presentation are cost savings, duty of care and travel restrictions.

INFLATION TOPIC OF WORKSHOP: Credit Union of Ohio is offering a free virtual workshop to help attendees learn to inflation-proof their budget.
Three, 30-minute sessions will be available next week to help attendees set short- and long-term goals to deal with inflation and keep their spending on track. The first session is noon Tuesday and two additional sessions will be noon and 6 p.m. Thursday. Each session will cover the same material.

BOUTIQUE OPEN: A ribbon cutting for Blessed Beyond Measure, 220 E. Market St., was scheduled for Friday to celebrate the faith-based boutique’s grand opening.
Owned by Aneasha Mohammed, the shop offers a wide range of women’s clothing, shoes and accessories, and also spiritual prayer sessions.
NEW PIZZA PARLOR IN CORTLAND: Romeo’s Pizza will open a location at 417 S. High St., Cortland.
The store is owned by Daniel Labbato, a long-time entrepreneur and real estate agent, and Jay-P Fite, a chiropractor in North Olmstead. It will be open seven days a week for lunch through late-night.
Founded in 2001 in Medina, Romeo’s Pizza has 58 locations in Ohio, Florida, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina and South Carolina.
EUROPEAN WAX CENTER NOW IN BOARDMAN: European Wax Center, Inc., a personal care franchise brand offering wax services, opened March 14 at The Shops at Boardman Park.
The store is the first for European Wax Center in Ohio.

CHAMBER REALIGNS, PROMOTES STAFF: The Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber has realigned five members of its team.
Effective this month, Sarah Boyarko will be chief operating officer; Kim Calvert will become senior vice president of marketing and member services; Shea MacMillan will head the chamber’s economic development efforts as vice president of economic development; Michael McGiffin will become president of the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber Foundation; and Melissa Maiorano will become director of workforce development.
