Chennai: Four gang members were arrested in Tiruvallur for promising jobs in the railway department after they threatened a man with a country-made pistol when he demanded the amount of Rs 50 lakh that he’d given to them back. Rajkumar (50), one of the suspects who is a native of Krishnagiri, was also found to be involved in an arms case earlier in Thoothkudi, Madurai, West Bengal, and Delhi.

Tiruvallur district special branch (SB) inspector Arul Murugan, the police team led by inspector Ravi Kumar, sub-inspector Surendran, and special branch head constable Velayutham caught the four suspects near the collector’s office in Tiruvallur. Two refurbished pistols, 13 ammunition, a knife, and a luxury car were also seized from the gang, as reported by the Times of India.

All residents of Krishnagiri, the three other suspects were identified as Srinath, Ebenezer alias Rajesh, and a car driver Arasu Kumar. As per investigations, it was found out that Srinath lured a man named Leo Thomas Peter, another resident of Krishnagiri, on the pretext of a promised job in the railway department.

The victim, believing these claims, introduced Srinath to a few friends and relatives who gave him money for jobs in the department. Since his promise of a job in the railways was not fulfilled, they demanded that their money be returned.

They were asked by Srinath to come to a place near the Triuvallur collector office to collect their money, but the four men were present there to threaten the victims. Once Peter registered a complaint with the police, the four accused were nabbed.

RV Varun Kumar, Tiruvallur superintendent, said, “The accused Rajkumar had procured the country-made 9 mm pistols from Bihar and other states. He refurbished them by fixing a small gas cylinder equipment. As soon as the trigger is hit, the lead pellets hit the person. If hit from close range, it can prove fatal.”
