Now it’s Wagatha Christie, the TV rematch: As court showdown looms, Coleen Rooney signs up for a Netflix documentary – and Rebekah Vardy ‘is in talks for an interview with Piers Morgan’

The Wagatha Christie saga is set to continue long after this week’s High Court showdown, with Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy both poised to tell their side of the story on TV.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Mrs Rooney, the wife of former England striker Wayne, has signed a deal to make a documentary.

Filming is thought to have already started and it is believed that the show will air on streaming giant Netflix.

Meanwhile, Mrs Vardy, who is suing Mrs Rooney for libel, is believed to be in negotiations with Piers Morgan for an interview on his new chat show on Talk TV.

Sources say both women could pocket six-figure sums for spilling details of their battle since Mrs Rooney, 35, dramatically took to social media in October 2019 to allege that stories about her that had been leaked to The Sun newspaper had originated from Mrs Vardy’s Instagram account.

Mother-of-four Mrs Rooney is working with Dorothy Street Pictures, the company behind the much anticipated Pamela Anderson documentary which will be shown on Netflix.

A source said: ‘Coleen has done the clever thing and got in to tell her story before someone else muscles in.

‘She will be really hands-on and wants to tell the truth about what went on. Filming started a few weeks ago and there is huge excitement around it.

‘The programme is most definitely going in the direction of Netflix. It will be classy, and speak from the heart.

‘There were various offers and discussions about who would make this documentary but Coleen loved that Dorothy Street is run by women.’

The 40-year-old is friends with the former Mail on Sunday columnist and one insider said: ‘Becky knows what this is worth. While nothing has been signed yet the deal is as good as done. Piers is not going to let this go elsewhere. He is very much in pole position.’

The Wagatha Christie trial begins tomorrow, with Mrs Rooney’s husband, now the manager of Derby Country, expected to give evidence.

Legal costs have already run into the millions, sparking criticism of both footballers’ wives.

The MoS can reveal, however, that Mrs Rooney made a ‘drop-hands’ offer to Mrs Vardy which would have seen each of them walk away and meet their own legal costs.

She also suggested that each make a donation to charity.

But Mrs Vardy, who says she sought professional help to cope with the trauma of the feud, is understood to have declined and is determined to extract a public apology.

Mrs Rooney’s allegation about leaks from Mrs Vardy’s private Instagram account came after she turned sleuth to find out the source of several newspaper stories, by blocking all but one of her followers from seeing her Instagram account, then posting fake stories that subsequently appeared in The Sun.

Mrs Vardy denies the claim and in a witness statement submitted last month suggested that it could have been her former agent, Caroline Watt, who was behind the leaks.

Formidable woman in the wig who will preside over war of the Wags

Mrs Justice Steyn will find herself in the full glare of the media spotlight

Mrs Justice Steyn will find herself in the full glare of the media spotlight

In her long legal career she has been engaged in such weighty cases as Guantanamo Bay prisoners, Saudi arms deals – and claims Priti Patel bullied civil servants.

But from tomorrow, Mrs Justice Steyn will find herself in the full glare of the media spotlight for an altogether different reason, as she presides over the Wagatha Christie libel trial.

Described as ‘formidable and exceptionally intelligent’, she is the daughter of former Law Lord, Lord Steyn.

And those who have attended preliminary hearings have seen hints of frustration in Dame Karen, possibly mirroring a wider disbelief that Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy are spending millions over their dispute.

Dame Karen was born in South Africa but grew up in Britain where she attended Tonbridge Grammar School in Kent and Liverpool University.

Now 51, she was appointed a High Court judge in 2019, becoming a dame in the same year. She was the only one of that year’s High Court intake not to have attended Oxbridge.

She previously said: ‘Before I started my career I certainly had a perception of barristers as all fitting a particular mould, one that I knew I did not fit, and it took a little while for me to appreciate that there is no mould.’
