A family who bought a new-build property from Davidsons Homes claim that more than 100 unfinished jobs and issues have been found at the house.

Clare and Darren Warrener, who purchased the Ashby home in December 2019 from the developer, claim the problems include a leaking window in her son’s bedroom, a flooded garden and a boiler that ‘keeps tripping the electrics’.

The couple allege that despite telling Davidsons Homes about the issues, most have not been resolved, meaning problems have been going on for more than two years.

Clare, a mum-of-two, told LeicestershireLive: “The urgent items and safety issues are being completely ignored by them.”

Darren claimed: “This is really just the tip of the iceberg, and the majority of issues date back to July 2019.

“The developer may have attempted [to fix] some, but consistently fail to fully resolve or only ever partially complete them.”

Pictures taken by the couple appear to show a leaking window, exposed electrical wires and gaps between doors and their frames.

While Clare said she acknowledged that the wires and door frames had now been fixed, she maintained that more than 100 issues were still outstanding.

She claimed that her three-year-old son had suffered a chest infection due to the water that was leaking in through his bedroom window.

“They came out to fix it but just added a type of foam which only absorbed the water for so long before it started dripping again,” said Clare.

A contractor then went to the property to remove the brick arches over the windows to try to find the source of the leak, “but that was 10 months ago and it is still yet to be rendered, sealed or painted”, she added.

Clare alleges that large gaps between door frames have inflated heating prices in her home

When the family moved into the property, Clare claimed, the front door did not lock properly and needed to be replaced. As it was a security issue, the family spent more than £1,200 to replace the door privately, she added.

Clare claimed she believed the company’s handling of the family’s complaints had been “disgusting”, and that the issues in their home were “hazardous” to her children.

She claimed she had had to make direct arrangements with contractors including builders and electricians to try to get the issues fixed, and that the family feels “ignored” by the developer.

Darren said: “I have consistently emailed Davidsons with little or no response. The contracts manager just keeps saying, ‘We are working towards resolving them’.”

The housing firm said it had been in constant communication with the couple, and were working to resolve all of the reported issues.

A Davidsons Homes spokesperson told LeicestershireLive: “We pride ourselves on the build quality of our homes, but with every new-build there will be issues reported.

“We have been working through the reported issues from the customer in question, and, as all communications are logged, we are confident that we have dealt with any issues as promptly and efficiently as possible.

“We intend to continue working with the buyer to ensure that any logged issues are rectified and that we leave the property at the high standard we expect for our customers.”

The spokesperson added: “We would never want any buyer to feel ignored, which is why we keep a log of all contact to ensure that we are resolving any issues and keeping the customer informed along the way.”
