Dean Smith says he’s “looking forward to proving people wrong” as Norwich City manager.

The 50 year-old gave his first press conference as the Canaries new manager and said the club has “the time and the quality” to stay in the Premier League.

This comes after the former Aston Villa boss was confirmed as Norwich’s new manager, not long they sacked Daniel Farke after their win against Brentford.

Mr Smith told me why he decided to take the job, just ten days after getting sacked: “I think it’s an attractive job because of the club that it is, the fan base it has and the potential it’s got.

“A lot of people are already writing us off. Our job is to prove people wrong, there’s 27 games left in the season and I think there’s a good squad of players there. Myself and Craig Shakespeare’s job is to get the best out of them.”

He also told me why he’s relishing the new challenge: “People are very quick to give a negative opinion on any performance, but that’s the world we’ve chosen to be in, that’s football. I’m a big boy now, I’m 50 years-old and been in football for 34 years.

“It’s always been a motivating factor to make sure the people that said you weren’t quick enough, tall enough, you weren’t strong enough or good enough in the air, that’s for my players to prove them wrong.”

Norwich City are currently bottom of the league after getting five points from eleven games. They face Southampton this Saturday at Carrow Road, followed by an away trip to Wolves.
