THE employment market in West Fife remains healthy despite a small increase in unemployment numbers.

The number of people claiming Universal Credit went up by 0.3 per cent in Dunfermline and West Fife to 8,803 compared to 8,780 the previous month.

Across Fife, the number of claimants went up by 0.7 per cent to 34,685.

DWP partnership manager at Dunfermline Jobcentre Plus, Phil Martin, said the Dunfermline labour market was good for anyone looking for a post.

“There are a lot of vacancies across all employment sectors,” he said. “At the beginning of December, we had a jobs fair at the Glen Pavilion and there were about 20 employers who came along and over 740 vacancies available.

“Almost 200 unemployed people attended and 275 applications were given out.

“The new West Fife Youth Hub, hosted at Fife College Halbeath Campus, has officially opened and young people are taking advantage of the selection of support available from Jobcentre Plus and other partners.”

Mr Martin said there was a range of opportunities available locally for jobseekers.

He added: “Fife Council particularly have got vacancies on the go. Stephens were recruiting, the care sector continues to be very busy, there are posts for drivers, hospitality – it is across all sectors really.”
