Now marked by a blue plaque, 38 Aubrey Walk was home to the British singer in the late Sixties and early Seventies when she released some of her most iconic hits.

The current owners have lived in Aubrey Walk for 11 years, originally at number 40 and then, when 38 came up for sale, they renovated the two properties into a single eight-bedroom home with a basement bar and discotheque.

“Most of the other houses in that area are tall and narrow,” said Alex Bourne of London House who are marketing the property. “To get a lateral house of this square footage, in this area and price range, is very unusual.”

The current owner said they’d always imagined the next buyer would be someone in the music business: “I put in a bar and disco room in the basement, everyone should have a disco ball in their lives.”

The property has been decorated with a new blue plaque in recent years, after the original one went missing during extensive renovation works.

“I rang to find out about blue plaques and it just so happened that that spring they were doing a gala event for Dusty Springfield’s birthday,” said the owner. “So we had a big unveiling.

Lateral living: the home spans five floors, including a basement spa and entertainment room

Behind its Art Deco-style façade, the vast home is arranged over five floors with suitably glamorous features throughout — from the basement party room and 35ft swimming pool up to the south-facing roof terrace.

Passersby tend to stop and admire the blue plaque, says Bourne: “They’re not necessarily potential buyers, but it does perk up interest.”

“People are buying pieces of London – it’s lovely to have a piece of London history.”
