Eighteen new jobs have been created for young people looking for work, thanks to Nottingham City Homes.
NCH secured funding from the Government to create the new job placements for unemployed 16-24 year olds. So far eighteen new roles have been secured, with a further six pending approval.
The new roles are being funded as part of the Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit, who are at risk of long term unemployment. As part of the scheme, the Government pays 100% of the national minimum wage for the six-month work placement.
The first nine Kickstarters have joined NCH this week in roles within Employability, Temporary accommodation, Tenancy Sustainment, Universal Credit and other departments.
Anisha Begum, who started working with us this week and said: “I’m really excited to have a place working with NCH. It’s a great opportunity to get real, on the job, paid experience, which I hope will help to start a career in the future, plus this will look great on my CV. I can’t wait to get started!”
Candidates will be provided with in-work support and training throughout the process. Every young person will be assigned a mentor, who will help them to develop basic work skills and access additional opportunities. They will also get ongoing employment support to make sure they progress into longer term employment, either with NCH or elsewhere.

Nationally, the Kickstart Housing Partnership, will help over 800 young people in this first successful bid for funding.
The Chancellor and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Therese Coffey, said: “There is no limit on the number of opportunities we’ll open up through Kickstart and we’ll fund each one for six months as part of Our Plan for Jobs to create, support and protect jobs. Young people taking part will receive on-the-job training, skills development and mentoring, as we get them on that first rung of the jobs ladder and on their way to successful careers.
“Young people are usually amongst the worst hit by financial crises, and unemployment can have longstanding implications for their future jobs and wages. We know people are leaving education into an extremely difficult jobs market, we know that young people are more likely to have been furloughed, so we are stepping in to provide more help.”
Nottingham City Homes is part of the Kickstart Housing Partnership led by Clarion Housing Group, the UK’s largest provider of affordable housing. The partnership includes 58 other organisations, including 44 in the housing sector that will create new Kickstart roles.
