EMERGENCY CREWS CALLED TO PROPERTY FIRE ON HORSEBRIDGE HILL – Island Echo

Emergency crews including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a property fire on the main Cowes to Newport road this afternoon (Saturday).

Firefighters from Newport and Cowes, alongside colleagues from the police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called at approximately 14:45 to reports of a fire at a residential property in Horsebridge Hill.

It’s understood smoke was seen by nearby residents issuing from a window of the building.

3 appliances, 2 ambulances, and several police units have arrived at the scene, with firefighters entering the smoke filled semi-detached property.

Traffic is heavy in the area as police block one lane of the carriageway to allow crews to work safely.

UPDATE @ 15:33 – Firefighters have entered the property and quickly moved to investigate the cause of the smoke – which has been revealed to have been excess cooking fumes.

At least one person has been led from the property to be checked by paramedics for signs of smoke inhalation. It is understood that they will be taken to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment.

Remaining firefighters are using a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove any remaining fumes from the building, whilst others conduct safe and well and smoke alarm checks at neighbouring properties.

Newport’s retained fire appliance has now stood down, along with resources from the ambulance service.

Traffic remains heavy on the approach to Horsebridge Hill.
