Fire in Ranch restaurant in Events Square, Falmouth investigated

A fire investigation is being carried out today into the cause of a fire which ripped through a Falmouth restaurant on Events Square yesterday afternoon.

Four people had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a large fire broke out in the Ranch Events Square, Falmouth at around 1.40pm.

Cornwall fire service said they received a large number of calls with reports of the fire in the restaurant at around 1.43pm on Saturday with smoke billowing from the building.

Due to the number of calls coming in and reports of large amounts of smoke coming from the building, three appliances were immediately mobilised from Falmouth and Truro. In total 30 calls were made.

The first unit that arrived immediately called for back-up as smoke was issuing from the building. The area at the time was packed with people celebrating Falmouth Pride.

On arrival firefighters from Falmouth found a fire in a kitchen and entered using breathing apparatus and hose reels. Further assistance was required and a “make pumps 4 and aerial ladder platform” message was arrived from Tolvaddon and Truro.

Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reels and ladders to fight and extinguish the fire which spread into the neighbouring property. A fire investigation will take place today (Sunday).

Ambulance crews had to treat several people for smoke inhalation at the scene.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire Service said: “The Critical Control Centre began receiving multiple emergency calls at 13:43 with reports of a fire in a building in Events Square, Falmouth.

Falmouth Packet:

“Due to the number of calls coming in and reports of large amounts of smoke coming from the building, three appliances were immediately mobilised from Falmouth and Truro. At this time, a whole time officer was also mobilised for support.

“On arrival, the first appliance in attendance issued a “make pumps 4 – smoke issuing” message.

“Following this, a further appliance from Tolvaddon was mobilised to the incident. In addition to this, a second Whole Time Officer and an Incident Command Unit from St Just were mobilised.

“Ambulance attended to treat a number of casualties suffering from smoke inhalation.”
