The first residents at a housing development which is taking shape on the former JCB factory site in Cheadle are set to move into their homes next month.

Bellway will start welcoming new homeowners to Cecilly Mills, off Oakamoor Road, from the end of April.

The developer is building 120 properties at the site, where a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses are for sale.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “Handing over the keys to our first residents at Cecilly Mills will be a major step in the transformation of this previously derelict industrial site into a thriving residential community.

“By offering a varied mix of homes, we hope to cater for a wide range of people at different stages of the property ladder. The four-bedroom detached houses are ideal for growing families seeking more space while the smaller terraced and semi-detached properties will help to meet the demand from first-time buyers.

“The development is proving extremely popular, and sales have been particularly strong since we opened our two showhomes to the public in November. Cheadle is a sought-after location for Staffordshire housebuyers and Cecilly Mills is conveniently situated less than a mile from the centre of this historic market town.”

The Cecilly Mills JCB factory was closed in 2016 and the old buildings were demolished in 2017. Construction work on the new homes began in December 2020.

Bellway has chosen to celebrate the site’s industrial heritage by retaining the Cecilly Mills name given to the JCB factory and the textile mill which occupied the land before it.

Marie said: “Cecilly Mills forms part of our ongoing commitment to supplying much-needed new homes in North Staffordshire, which also includes our recently completed Bramshall Green site in Uttoxeter and our forthcoming The Crescent development in Stoke which launches this summer.”

A selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes are currently available at Cecilly Mills, priced from £193,500 to £344,995.
