Four-bedroom London bungalow on sale for a bargain £350,000… but there’s a catch

A FOUR-bed bungalow in London is on the market for the knock-down price of £350,000 – but the buyer will have their work cut out before moving in.

The detached property on Warwick Road in Chingford, north-east London, would be a steal for house-hunters as the average price for homes in that area is £515,000.

However, new homeowners would have a large clean-up operation on their hands to remove all the remnants of a former cannabis-growing operation.

Pictures reveal equipment used for growing cannabis plants littered throughout the bungalow.

The kitchen shows multiple black bin bags and storage tubs filled with what appear to be dead cannabis plants, with rotting leaves scattered around them.

A bedroom features two makeshift air ventilation shafts dangling from the ceiling which would have been used to help the cannabis plants grow.

Another room’s wallpaper has been stripped down to the bare plaster while another ventilation shaft hangs from the ceiling.

The floor is covered by a heat-resistant plastic sheet which still features remnants of plants.

The bathroom is fairly ordinary, aside from the fact that the toilet seat has been torn off and the bathtub is crammed full of large, black ventilation pipes.

Other items such as small bricks of insulation, more ventilation pipes and large white plastic sheets are strewn across the floors of the home.

Before entering the home, the garden already appears to be overgrown with weeds and large plants, obscuring the path to the front door.

The property, listed by McHugh & Co last week, is being advertised as having “development potential”.

It has been set at a guide price of £350,000 and will be part of an online auction being held on December 2.

McHugh & Co describe it as: “A freehold detached vacant bungalow with development potential.

‘DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL’

“Situated off Hampton Road in a popular residential area, close to Chingford Mount Road and local shopping/travelling facilities including Highams Park Overground Station.

“A detached freehold bungalow on a large plot of land of approximately 7,000 sq ft with development potential subject to the necessary consents being obtained.”

The estate agency does not make any reference to the property’s history throughout the listing.

However, property browsers immediately noticed the signs of it being used as a cannabis farm.

The property was shared on a consumer website thread yesterday captioned: “Grow your own produce”

@ProDave commented: “A once nice house has gone to pot.”

And user @rexmedorum added: “Quite literally!”

According to Rightmove, Chingford had an overall average price of £515,013 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Chingford during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £517,938.

During this period, semi-detached properties sold for an average of £601,673, with flats fetching £306,964.

Over the last year sold prices in Chingford were 10 per cent up on the previous year and 13 per cent up on the 2018 peak of £456,606.
