DIY and garden specialist Homebase is creating 300 new retail jobs for young people in the UK.

The first crop of recruits joined Homebase yesterday (26th July 2021), with more to follow on August 23rd.

The 300 Homebase jobs have been created as part of the UK government’s Kickstart scheme. By signing up to Kickstart and creating the vacancies, Homebase has become the first home and garden retailer to take part in the initiative.

The vacancies will be split between Homebase’s click-and-collect and multichannel service support operations, with positions available at over 80 stores nationwide.

The placements will last for six months and the young recruits will train up in skills as varied as customer relationship management stock, digital sales, health and safety, management, organisation, problem solving and teamwork.

Announcing the new opportunities for young people, the head of People & Leadership at Homebase, Neil Hill, said: “I’m really excited that Homebase is joining the Kickstart Scheme to help the next generation grow. We’re committed to giving back to the local communities that we live and work in and we’re looking forward to welcoming our new team members.”

“I actually entered the workplace myself through a government-funded scheme and I honestly don’t think I would be in this job today if it wasn’t for that opportunity, so this feels special on a personal level, too,” added Mr Hill.
