A HOMEOWNER has been left furious after a mystery neighbour set four bonfires a MONTH which filled his house with putrid smoke.

The man – who asked not to be named – said his home in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, is filled with fumes from bonfires set nearby.

But Bosworth Borough Council has so far been unable to track down who is responsible for the reeking blazes, which have happened around 12 times in just three months.

The resident told Leicestershire Live: “I don’t think we would have bought the property had we known this would be such a problem.

“It feels like this is going to be an ongoing issue and a non starter in terms of enforcement. I can’t see how it’s going to be resolved.”

Police attended nearby allotments earlier this year to try to figure out who was starting the fires.

But cops weren’t able to track down the culprit.

An earlier council statement read: “The difficulty is that sometimes the bonfires happen at evenings and weekends.

“We have already written to the owners of certain plots who we believe are burning to advise them that complaints have been made in an attempt to avoid impact from further fires.”

Councils can issue notices ordering residents to stop setting bonfires if they are deemed a “statutory nuisance”.

But without a known culprit, that route is untenable – leaving the landowner desperate.

Leicestershire Live has contacted the council for an update.
