Property expert Martin Roberts has seen his fair share of run down buildings over the years on Homes Under The Hammer. The presenter regularly conducts property searches on the hit BBC show. However, he’s admitted the job isn’t always a glamorous one, especially when he’s visiting properties which have been abandoned for a lengthy period of time.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Martin opened up about how “proud” he is of Homes Under The Hammer.
He remarked: “I’ve been doing it for coming up to 19 years now which is extraordinary.”
Noting the popularity of the show, Martin added: “It really does cut across a whole mixture of people and that’s really great.
“You know, it’s a lovely show to be associated with and be a part of,” he commented.

However, the presenter confessed his job isn’t easy as he shared some horror stories from the show.
Some of the properties featured on Homes Under The Hammer have structural damage and need a lot of work to get them back to a habitable state.
The presenter explained his experience and knowledge often enables him to spot construction issues straight away.
Martin commented: “Luckily I sort of know the business so I know what’s really dicey or what isn’t.”
“You know, if animals have been kept inside or whatever the smell is quite horrendous,” he added.
As a result, Martin admitted the Homes Under The Hammer team have a special rule.
The presenter remarked: “We do have a Hammer rule which is ‘Never open the fridge!’
“Because therein lies a whole host of nasal disasters, basically,” Martin explained.
The presenter laughed: “You can imagine if a fridge has been abandoned and left… yeah, no just don’t go there!”
Despite having to search some treacherous properties, Martin made it clear he loves his job on Homes Under The Hammer.
“I’m very proud of it and proud to have been associated with it and have been a part of it for so long,” he remarked.
