With demand for property high and there a lack of homes on the market, those selling their home are in a good position. However, there are ways to increase the chances of a sale, which include small jobs to be done around the home, including painting, tidying and cleaning.

Experts at www.onlinemoneyadvisor.co.uk shared top tips on what homeowners should get done before they sell a property.

This included decluttering the home as well as giving it a fresh lick of paint.

The experts said: “Everything you’ve accumulated over the years that’s now filling up the free space in your home, including the loose change on your fireplace, needs to go.

“Put it away or in storage, give it away, or even bin it, just make sure it’s gone before you invite people to view your home.

The experts said: “No prospective buyer wants to walk into a home and see cracks or holes in the wall, broken door knobs, cracked tiles or threadbare carpets.

“A lot of prospective buyers will want to be able to move in without having to then add renovations onto their process.

“Ensure everything is spick and span before opening up your home to viewers.”

What’s more, these small DIY jobs can be done affordably, using supplies from discounted stores like B&M.

The experts recommended taking a good look at the kitchen before even putting the house up for sale.

“Take a look to see if you’re making the most of your kitchen space,” they said.

According to www.onlinemoneyadvisor.co.uk experts, adding a few upgrades such as a new surface or new cupboards “can add serious value” to the total property price.

They added: “This might seem like a bit of an off one, but funky smells are one of the first things a prospective buyer will notice, but are so easy to fix.

“Give everywhere a deep clean, use wax melts, light candles, and make the most of air fresheners.”
