LAKKI MARWAT: Tribal elders have demanded employment opportunities for the local people at the exploration site of OGDCL in Betani subdivision of Lakki Marwat district.
The demand was made at a jirga held in the district headquarters complex Tajazai here the other day.
Tribal subdivision assistant commissioner Shakil Ahmad, who also attended the meeting, heard the problems highlighted by the elders and assured them that he would take up the same with relevant authorities for their early resolution.
The administration’s focal person for OGDCL Kiramatullah was also present at the jirga.
An elder said on the occasion that the company should increase the rent of land being used by it for exploration activities.
He said the tribesmen, especially educated youth, had the right to be given jobs by the company.
Another elder demanded recruitment of the tribal youths to guard the company’s site in the area.
The assistant commissioner told the elders that the local administration would take up the genuine demands of tribal elders with the company to find an amicable solution.
KILLED: A man was killed over a petty dispute in Abakhel area of Lakki Marwat the other day.
Police said Bahadar Khan shot dead Asif Kamal, 30, and escaped along with his brother Waheed Khan. Police said they had registered the case.
