KALYAN: The police have arrested a woman identified as Mansi Khandelwal, who claims to be the director of a shipping company, for allegedly duping three women of Rs 12 lakh under the pretence of getting their sons jobs in shipping companies.
Mansi along with her mother Ragini (who is currently on bail), is involved in separate cheating cases in Mumbai and Thane, and in February this year, the duo was arrested by Andheri police for duping several investors of Rs 14 crore.
Both of them were released on bail on April 28 after which the Khadakpada police on May 31 registered a fresh FIR against Mansi and another person named Nikhil Natesan in a cheating case, post which both the accused were on a run.
Police sources said on Wednesday that the officials received specific information that Mansi was hiding at her residence in the Khadakpada area and when the cops visited the address, they found the house locked from outside.
However, realising that someone was still inside the house, the police knocked and when they did not get any response, broke the lock and nabbed Mansi.
They later produced her before the Kalyan sessions court which remanded her into police custody till Friday.
Cops informed that the mother and daughter and habitual offenders and that they claim to be the directors of one Shree Tirupati Balaji Marine Enterprises Ltd and the owner of a shipyard near Ganesh ghat in Kalyan.
Police have learnt that the modus operandi of the women was to ask businessmen to invest in ships, which could attract monthly returns in lakhs as well as to promise jobs to those needy by taking money from them.
