An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and sales/profit hungry professional to join the fast-moving and high-performing UK Sales team of a top five UK publisher. Work with our extraordinary list of bestselling children’s authors and brands, including: Ben Bailey Smith, Katya Balen, Kalynn Bayron, Catherine Doyle, Neil Gaiman, Tom Percival, Sarah J. Maas, Meg Rosoff, Katherine Rundell and Harry Potter.   

We are looking for a confident communicator to manage and sell in to a selection of key accounts, including School Book Clubs, and to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts to ambitiously increase our sales in line with Bloomsbury’s overall growth plans.

A key member of the UK Sales team the Key Account Executive will sell all Bloomsbury Consumer Children’s, Non-Consumer Children’s and Agency titles and will be a contributing voice in UK Sales team discussions. This role will be predominantly self-sufficient, and offer support to senior members of the Children’s Sales team. 

This new role will report in to the Head of Sales in our Children’s team who in turn reports in to the Sales Director responsible for the Children’s Consumer, Non-Consumer and Special Sales Channel.

Based in our Bedford Square office this will be a hybrid-working position.

The role

  • Achieve and exceed the annual Children’s Consumer and Children’s Education sales budgets by managing profitable sales of titles into selected key accounts.
  • Manage the trading relationships and sell-in cycles for a selection of key accounts (School Book Clubs and TBC. Subject to change by agreement with employee and line manager where relevant). Present new frontlist and backlist range titles on a regular basis to these accounts, negotiate and deliver promotional and range deals.
  • Provide general support to the senior Children’s Sales team as required, including market research, data analysis and researching acquisition figures.
  • Deputise for the Senior KAM and KAM in ad hoc communication with retailers and in meetings.
  • Liaise with Bloomsbury stock management teams and MDL warehouse teams to ensure efficient processing of and timely delivery of customer orders
  • Conduct annual strategic reviews of key accounts’ business with Bloomsbury and make recommendations to drive sales in all forward strategic customer plans.
  • Participate in the publishing process – from the acquisition process to publication working closely with colleagues from the editorial, marketing and publicity departments across both Children’s Consumer and Non-Consumer Divisions.
  • Help other UK Sales colleagues with e.g. author signing sessions with Bloomsbury authors.

Knowledge, skills and experience 

  • Experience of supporting UK Retail account management preferable
  • Excellent communicator who is confident with dealing with people at all levels, particularly on the phone and over email/video
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and focused on efficiency at all times
  • Excellent time-management, prioritisaton and organisational skills, keen awareness of deadlines
  • Ability to build effective relationships with key contacts as well as in-house colleagues
  • Ability to adapt to changing daily tasks
  • Strong numerical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Teams
  • Proficient with systems such as Biblio, Nielsen, Cognos and Vista

The role is a full-time permanent position.

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are: Monday/Tuesday
