Urban Company raises USD 255 mn, valuation crosses USD 2.1 bn
- Home services marketplace Urban Company on Wednesday said it has raised USD 255 million (about Rs 1,857 crore) in funding led by Prosus Ventures, Dragoneer and Wellington Management.
- The series F round – which also saw participation from Vy Capital, Tiger Global and Steadview – takes Urban Company’s valuation to USD 2.1 billion.
- The latest round includes a primary capital infusion of USD 188 million and a secondary sale of approximately USD 67 million by select angels and early investors, Urban Company CEO and co-founder Abhiraj Singh Bhal told PTI.
Earth-mover machine fired at by Pak along IB in Jammu
- Pakistani Rangers fired at an earth-mover machine engaged in cleaning bushes along the International Border (IB) here on Wednesday in what could be the second ceasefire violation in nearly four months, official sources said.
- The Border Security Force (BSF), which is guarding the IB, neither confirmed nor denied the incident.
- Sources said Pakistani Rangers fired a few rounds upon noticing the bullet-proof JCB machine clearing the bushes in Arnia sector’s Vikram post area in the outskirts of Jammu around 8.15 am.
- There was no report of any casualty. The BSF also fired a few rounds in retaliation, they said, adding the situation has returned to normal and there is calm along the IB.

State boards should cancel exams: Akhilesh Yadav
- Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks come a day after the government decided to cancel the CBSE class 12 board exams amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
- In a tweet in Hindi, Yadav said, “Finally, the insensitive BJP government had to bow down to the pressure of the examinees-parents and they had to take the decision to cancel the CBSE class 12 exams. Now on this basis the examinations of other boards and state boards should also be cancelled”.
Delhi records minimum temperature of 22.2 deg C, light rains likely
- Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 22.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal, on Wednesday morning while light rain is likely during the day, the India Meteorological Department said.
- The national capital on Tuesday recorded a minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius. It was 10 degrees below the normal and the lowest ever for the month of June, primarily due to rainfall, thunderstorm and gusty winds under the influence of a western disturbance.
- The maximum temperature in the city is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. It was 33.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, seven notches below the normal.

Child dies of rare blood disease soon after mother applies for mercy killing
- A nine-year-old boy died of a rare blood disease just within two hours after his mother had applied for his mercy killing in court on Tuesday, said police sources.
- The couple’s nine-year-old son Harshavardhan was detected with a rare blood disease. The family lives in Birjepalli village in Chowdepalli Mandal of Chittoor district.
- When Harshavardhan was four years old, the poor couple got to know that their son had a rare disease related to blood. Despite receiving treatment his health did not improve. The couple also had to seek loans of Rs 4 lakh for the treatment, police sources added.

State Govt spent Rs 130k crore for public welfare in 2 years: Andhra Minister
- Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu on Tuesday said that the state government spent Rs 1,30,000 crore through various schemes for the public welfare in the last two years, unlike the previous government who left a debt of Rs 1,50,000 crore by using for personal needs under the name of public welfare.
- “The YSRCP government gave priority to welfare over development and pumped money to revive the state economy and stand by the weaker sections during the pandemic crisis. The State government did not hold back any welfare schemes despite a decline in state revenue, as Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy clearly wanted the government to stand by the people in such tough times,” Kannababu told the media personnel.
NATO agrees on continued support in Afghan
- At a NATO Foreign Minister’s virtual meeting at Brussels on Tuesday (local time), Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organisation will continue to support Afghanistan’s security forces even after the planned withdrawal this year of the alliance’s 9,600 troops.
- “A civilian presence in the capital Kabul will be maintained to provide advice to security institutions,” said Jens Stoltenberg, reported UAE based news portal The National News. “We are ending our military mission in Afghanistan, but we will continue to provide support to the Afghans,” Stoltenberg said.
Odisha CM orders to provide pension to beneficiaries within 15 days
- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday ordered the state officials to provide pension to the women, who lost their husbands and children, who lost their parents due to COVID-19 within 15 days under Madhu Babu Pension Scheme.
- Patnaik, during a review meeting over the COVID-19 situation and its management with Senior Government officials and Collectors, also directed to provide three months advance pension for all Social Security beneficiaries.
US formally ends policy for asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico
- The Biden administration on Tuesday formally ended a Trump-era immigration policy that forced asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration court.
- A seven-page memo by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas marked the end of the “Migrant Protection Protocols,” which returned about 70,000 asylum-seekers to Mexico from January 2019 until it was halted on President Joe Biden’s first day in office two years later.
