We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced, Scottish qualified property Solicitor to join the property team within Scottish Water’s in-house legal team. This post is being advertised as a fixed term appointment for a period of 2 years.
About the Role
You will be a key player in our team to support the successful delivery of Scottish Water’s Capital Investment Programme by giving sound legal advice and proactively driving forward a high volume of property land transactions. The Programme is fast moving, challenging and priorities can shift quickly, and so we need someone who can work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
You will:
- Work collaboratively with surveyors, stakeholders and external solicitors to secure land to deliver Scottish Water’s projects.
- Work efficiently on your own but also be good team player.
- Carry out all parts of conveyancing process (including acquisitions, leases and servitudes) with minimum supervision, but with the awareness to seek assistance when required.
- Provide sound legal advice clearly and concisely, and without jargon.
- Proactively manage risk and identify workable solutions whilst securing Scottish Water’s commercial and reputational interests, and help to achieve its strategic ambitions.
- Help keep our projects on track with accurate progress reporting.
- Instruct where appropriate to and liaise with external Scottish Water’s framework solicitors to ensure quality and value for money.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law and practice.
- Play an active role in process improvement and participate in knowledge sharing and training sessions for the legal team and the rest of Scottish Water.
About You
- You must be a solicitor qualified to practice in Scotland and hold a current unrestricted practicing certificate from the Law Society of Scotland.
- You will have at least 3 years PQE in independently progressing commercial property and/or rural & agricultural property transactions
- You will be enthusiastic, personable and will relish the challenges of enabling efficient project delivery in a dynamic working environment.
