COUNCIL chiefs are recruiting to fill 11 positions to bolster teams involved in major regeneration projects across the borough.

The local authority announced this week it is on the hunt for “highly motivated people” to join its growth delivery and prosperity team.

Recruits will be involved in projects including the regeneration of St Helens and Earlestown town centres, the development of the Parkside logistics site and the Bold Forest Park.

St Helens Borough Council secured £25m earlier this year as part of the Government’s Towns Deal fund and also has an agreement in place with the English Cities Fund for a 20-year programme of transformation across the borough.

The council has faced criticism for failing to make enough progress over the past decade with regeneration.

It is understood council chiefs feel one of the reasons for this has been a lack of investment and key people in place services, an area which leads growth and regeneration.

The recruitment drive represents an investment of more than £500,000 in the team.

Among the most senior roles being advertised are for a head of regeneration and growth and head of planning.

The head of regeneration and growth position comes with a salary of up to £73,690.

The successful candidate will be involved in projects such as the town centre regenerations, Parkside in Newton-le-Willows, Glass Futures in St Helens and the Omega West scheme in Bold.

In the job advert , the council states: “Become part of our exhilarating journey and help build our legacy.

“Now more than ever, we need to drive innovative change across our services, enabling the council to take the next step in delivering its ambitious agenda and adapting collectively to a changing world – from industry to ingenuity.
