Here’s how to make the cost of your move not quite so bricks ’n’ mortarfying.

SAVE BOXES: Don’t bin used cardboard packing boxes.

Flat-pack them, make up a bundle and put this on an auction site or online market-place. You could make £15 or more, depending on number of boxes.

If about to move, these are also good places to buy boxes, as kits are around £25 on Amazon. Wrap towels and sheets around fragile items.

SWITCH BILLS: Connecting utilities is a priority when moving but certain things can get overlooked when busy.

Use quidco.com or topcashback.co.uk if switching phone, broadband or energy suppliers, and get great cashback deals.

If you use Quidco’s energy price comparision tool, you will make up to £40 just for comparing.

CLEAN UP: I always end up cleaning before I leave, then in the new home. So be prepared.

Urgency to get products can mean spending loads at a costly local express supermarket.

If not near a Poundland, try poundshop.com or easho.com for great bulk buys.

A 12-pack of Astonish cleaning sprays at Easho is £10.99, whereas elsewhere you can pay £1 or more for a single spray.

DRIVE DOWN THE COST: If using your car to move clobber, work out how much petrol it will cost going back and forth, at rac.co.uk/route-planner/mileage-calculator and use petrolprices.com so you fill up cheaply.

Or a useful site for van hire is comparethemanandvan.co.uk — and there is the option to add extra help.

GET SOME REST: Hunt down vouchers for the night before you move out, or the night you move in, because no one wants to cook when exhausted.

The offers section on The Sun’s app has a great Domino’s pizza deal.

Or delivery app foodhub.co.uk has great discounts across lots of restaurants.
