ARMED cops swooped on a home in a quiet cul de sac after a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death.
Officers were seen pointing guns at the property in Marshall Wallis Road in South Shields following reports of an altercation.
A man found with knife wounds was rushed to hospital but sadly couldn’t be saved and died shortly after.
Police have arrested six people in connection with the horror who remain in custody.
Officers swooped on the residential street at around 1am on Saturday.
Specially-trained officers were seen searching drains and forensic officers spotted going in and out of a home on the cul-de-sac.
Around seven armed officers were seen pointing their guns towards a terraced property.
One local said: “It’s a really scary thing when there are armed police on the street.
“I left my door unlocked last night by accident.
“It really makes you worry about your safety.”
Another said: “My husband went out to get a paper.
“When he came back he said the area had been cordoned off by police.”
Northumbria Police are now appealing for witnesses following the horror.
They also confirmed extra officers will remain in the area while the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Woods said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
“They are being supported by specialist officers and we will continue to offer them any support they need.
“We want to reassure the man’s family that we are doing all we can to understand the full circumstances which led to this tragedy and bring anyone involved to justice.
“We understand that a number of people may have been present at the time of the incident and would appeal to anyone who hasn’t already come forward to contact us.
“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you believe it may be, could be crucial to the investigation.”
