Deals for Newly Built Homes Dropped 19.4% in June

New home sales fell 19.4% year over year in June, the lowest level since April 2020, when much of the U.S. and world was following stay-at-home orders prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Monday. In addition, June’s annualized rate of 676,000 was down 6.6% compared to the previous month. The median price of a newly built home ticked up 6% in June, compared to the same time in 2020, down significantly from the record highs of up to 20% recorded in the prior 12 months. CNBC

Balthazar Getty Sells Hollywood Hills Property for $8.4 Million

Former actor, DJ and oil heir Balthazar Getty—who is the great-grandson of oil baron J. Paul Getty—and fashion designer Rosetta Millington Getty have sold their Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, home for $8.4 million. There’s a total of about 6,600 square feet of living space between the main home and guest house, both of which boast solar panels. The couple purchased the home in 2003 for $2.15 million, and originally asked $10.5 million when it was listed in 2015. Dirt.com

Homes in Sydney Neighborhood of Northern Beaches Spend Least Time on Market in Australia

Homes sold in Australia in June spent a median of 38 days on the market, about a 46% drop compared to 71 days in June 2020. Residences in Northern Beaches, a Sydney neighborhood, spent a median of 22 days on the market, the lowest number in the country. Of the 10 areas that spent the least time on the market, eight of them are in New South Wales and only one of those eight, Illawarra, is not located in the Greater Sydney region. realestate.com.au

Thomas Heatherwick and Bjarke Ingels Projects on World Architecture Festival Shortlist

The World Architecture Festival has unveiled its shortlist, which includes 200 of the best new buildings and landscape designs from around the world. It includes the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet, a watchmaking museum in the remote Swiss mountain town of Le Brassus designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group; a park in Sanya, China, that was restored by architecture firm Turenscape; and a support center for cancer patients in Leeds, England, by Heatherwick Studio.
