Miles Teller’s alleged assailant charged with assault after ‘punching actor’ in Maui restaurant

The man who allegedly punched Miles Teller in Maui earlier this year has been charged with assault.
Russell Nielsen, who allegedly confronted Teller in the restroom of the Monkeypod Kitchen in May, was charged with one count of third degree assault in the County of Maui, according to TMZ, citing legal documents.
‘Prosecutors say he intentionally, knowingly or recklessly caused bodily injury to Miles,’ the site reports.

Teller claimed in May he had been ‘jumped’ by two men in a bathroom whom he did not know.
It has since been reported that Nielsen’s wife had planned Teller and Keleigh Sperry’s glamorous 2019 wedding on Maui, but was still allegedly owed $60,000 by the couple.
Tre Lovell, an attorney for the alleged assailant, told E! News: ‘It is my understanding that the altercation was a dispute over money pertaining to the couple’s wedding.
‘We are currently evaluating my clients’ legal claims that may exist surrounding the incident, statements made about the incident and the parties previous business dealings.

‘My clients are considering legal action based upon the incident as well as on the parties’ previous business dealings.’
The wedding planner and her husband were subsequently identified as Lorrie and Russell Nielson.
Teller broke his silence over the incident back in May, tweeting he had been ‘jumped’ by two men after professional wrestler Pat McAfee compared the assault to a tag-team wrestling match.

‘WOW Miles Teller didn’t even eat a shot that hard #SmackDown,’ the SiriusXM sportscaster crudely quipped back in May.
In response, the actor wrote back that he actually ‘got jumped by two guys in a bathroom’ whom he had ‘never met’ before in his life.
After reading Teller’s reply, McAfee expressed remorse for his comments and tweeted to ‘apologize for not knowing the whole story.’
At the time, Sperry also hit back at rumors the altercation was over money.

‘The story reported about Miles being punched in the face by @TMZ over ‘money’ is completely false,’ she posted to Instagram. ‘Miles was jumped by 2 men we have never met after they trapped him in a bathroom.’
‘It seems these same men have done this to many people and we appreciate your support Maui. This is now a criminal investigation,’ she added, signing off the message with a peace sign.
Teller and Sperry tied the knot on September 1, 2019, in a tropical ceremony held on Maui.
