Plans to regenerate a brownfield site in St Philip’s Marsh have been approved by a Government Planning Inspector earlier this month. The proposal was submitted by property developer Summix in April 2019 and will see the site become a high-quality mixed-use development.
The site at the corner of Feeder Road and Albert Road will be transformed – with the existing ageing, low-density industrial buildings being replaced with purpose-built student accommodation and an allotted commercial space.
Summix’s proposals will deliver 595 new student apartments and provide 3,500 sq. metres of commercial space facing the main roads, providing an active frontage onto these key city centre = routes and breathing new life into this area of Bristol.
In making the assessment of the proposal, the Government’s Planning Inspector recognised the clear benefits of the proposals in “meeting a pressing need for purpose-built student accommodation in the city” and “freeing up family homes onto the housing market at a time when there is an urgent need for housing in the city”. Summix’s plans will also help to deliver improvements to the cycle lane on Feeder Road as well as including significant planting and public realm improvements to support biodiversity.
