On Thursday the CDC announced their support of booster shots for Americans that absolutely need it.
It’s been decided that the booster will be given to people 65 and older, nursing home residents, and anyone ages 50 to 64 with underlying health issues.
Another recommendation was made by CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky that had been rejected by the panel; anyone ages 18 to 64 that is a healthcare worker or has a job that could put them at a higher risk of being exposed may get the booster.
The booster was offered to young people over 18 with underlying health issues, but not those that hold a high risk job.
Dr. Pablo Sanchez of Ohio State University disagrees, saying that says it may as well be given to everyone.
The proposal was rejected with a 9 to 6 vote.
The lack of data, and inability to even provide boosters to those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines, has had a huge impact on the FDA and CDC’s decisions to not approve the vaccine for the broad population.
