A PROPERTY agent from the Tamar Valley has won the Lettings Agent of the Year Award for 2021.

Poppy Field, 22, a lettings agent and administrator from Tavistock won the national award from Propertymark Qualifications – the UK’s property qualifications awarding organisation.

Poppy, who works with Stags in Tavistock and also manages her own properties, found out she had made the shortlist three weeks ago and was invited to attend the awards ceremony, alongside partner Hayden, hosted by Propertymark on Monday (December 6) at Aloft London Excel where she found out she had won.

After receiving the award, Poppy told the Times from London: ’Gosh, I almost have no words. This is an amazing achievement and it was totally unexpected! I’m really pleased. I came into the industry with limited knowledge and it soon became clear there really is a lot to learn. The Propertymark Qualifications have really helped me gain confidence.’

Maxine Fothergill, managing director of Amex Estates & Property Services Ltd and president of ARLA Propertymark said from the event: ’It was both a pleasure and honour to present the lettings candidate of the year ARLA Propertymark qualification award to Poppy this evening. Well done Poppy!’

The following day, Poppy was invited to attend the ARLA Propertymark conference and exhibition, the biggest letting agent conference in the UK, with both days serving as great networking opportunities.

This award celebrates the property worker who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in completing a lettings, inventory and/or deposit certificate.

The specialist judging panel chose Poppy as the winner as she achieved the highest overall marks across all units of the Level 3 qualification she was studying for. As the industry is currently unregulated, everyone who undertakes qualifications (which are self-funded) does so based on their dedication to the industry and commitment to learning and professional development. This year’s awards further celebrate achievements from 2019, 2020 and through Covid-19 pandemic which has cultivated difficult working circumstances for agents, meaning Poppy and other award winners at the ceremony (which was cancelled last year due to restrictions) have shone through the crowd.

Michael Smith, head of Propertymark Qualifications, said about Poppy’s nomination: ’Our industry experts who sat on our judging panel found this year’s awards nominees exceptionally difficult to narrow down and it is testament to the continued desire to learn even throughout the tough times that we have so many achievements to review and celebrate.’

Now Poppy has ceremoniously banked her Level 3 qualification, her plan is to ascend to the next rung of the property (qualification) ladder: ’I’m already halfway through studying for my Level 4 and I’d love to win an award for that,’ she said.

’I absolutely love the property sector. My ultimate goal would be to work for myself in the future; more qualifications make self-employment more likely. Between now and then I’d love to do some travelling too.’

Poppy additionally works as manager of the Tamar Trails Centre, who are gearing up for festivities at their Winter Wonderland event which begins on December 18.
