A NEW initiative that has given jobs to nearly 300 unemployed young people has been praised by a Largs councillor.

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet member for the post-Covid renewal, says that the Kickstart has project benefitted a string of youngsters across the area.

Local employers have been helped with funding to create new and additional jobs for young people.

BPO Collections, Restructa, Lowmac, Core Timber and Simpsinns are just some of the string of local employers who have already signed up.

Councillor Gallagher said: “We understand that young people and employers in North Ayrshire have been some of the hardest hit during the pandemic.

“We are proud to have supported 294 young people.

“Not only has Kickstart supported young adults, it has also promoted to local employers the untapped potential of local young people.

“With the funding paying six month’s salary for each young person, employers have a chance to recover from the economic effects of the pandemic whilst developing more opportunities to nurture the talent of our young people.”
