A founding director of a property, investment and development company is marking 30 years in business by attempting to raise £30,000 for the charity Sepsis Research FEAT.
NL Property’s Nigel Berney from Radlett, Hertfordshire, along with colleague Guy Harman, is planning a celebration with a difference in aid of Sepsis Research FEAT, the only charity in the UK dedicated to raising money for research into sepsis. The charity also works to raise awareness of this life-threatening illness which kills around 50,000 people in the UK every year.
Between Wednesday, June 16, Wednesday, June 30, Nigel and Guy will each be undertaking a virtual cycle covering over 300 miles which they have dubbed their ‘300 for 30 challenge’.
This is the distance from NL Property’s original offices in West Hampstead to the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, the home of the ground-breaking GenOMICC study which Sepsis Research FEAT helps to fund.
This world-leading study researches how our genes can influence the body’s response to serious conditions such as coronavirus and sepsis. In addition to marking the company’s 30th anniversary this summer, NL Property is launching a specialist division called NL Care which focuses on their work delivering state-of-the-art healthcare developments for the care sector. The company wanted to raise money for a charity linked to the communities NL Care works with and chose Sepsis Research FEAT because sepsis is prevalent in older people.
Speaking of their fundraising challenge, Nigel said: “As we celebrate 30 years in business together this summer, we have decided on a celebration with a difference.
“With the launch of our new brand, NL Care, we have decided to use this opportunity to give back to the communities in which we work and make a difference to the fight against sepsis.
“We were shocked to discover how serious sepsis can be. It really is a ‘silent killer’ that takes the lives of some 50,000 people in the UK every year – many of them either very young or over the age of 65.
“The GenOMICC study that Sepsis Research FEAT funds is truly world-leading. In the midst of the pandemic, the research team at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute made discoveries that had global implications for the understanding and treatment of COVID-19.
