Retirement villages generally do a fine job of organising special events.
But there have been no Easter treats for the past 24 months — and they’ve been greatly missed. But this year they are back with gusto.
At Richmond Villages Bede in Warwickshire, staff are organising an Easter Fair and egg hunt on Saturday, April 16, with daily clues given during the week.
Those who collect all the words will win a chocolate egg. A raffle, tombola, cake sale, refreshments, Easter egg lucky dip and stalls selling candles, make-up, body care essentials, gifts, cards, jewellery and toys are also planned.

‘We’re looking forward to it,’ says village manager Andrew Lower. ‘During the past two years, we have been limited on what we can do due to the pandemic, but this year things are almost back to normal.
‘We believe this Easter will be special and one where we can once again share each other’s company and, with renewed hope, look forward to many more social events.’
One-bedroom village suites at Bede are available from £99,000 to £125,000. These are located within the main village complex and it’s possible to include a lifestyle package, which takes care of cleaning, laundry, utility bills and meals from £320 per week.
Each apartment has an ensuite wet room, lounge and kitchenette. Two-bedroom bungalows (when they come up) sell from £140,000.
At Rangeford’s Mickle Hill retirement village in Pickering, North Yorkshire, there will be a decorating competition, with residents entering Easter-themed pictures, bonnets and eggs.
Resident Sandy Frow, 78, plans to dig out her summer hat so she can decorate it for the Easter bonnet competition. ‘We are a social bunch of people here, all different, but we all gel,’ she says.

‘I like to get involved and have fun, so I’m looking forward to Easter, especially now we are free to socialise with no restrictions.’
Sandy, who was a teacher, has lived in her two -bedroom apartment since the village opened in 2016.
Fellow resident Eileen Smith has decorated several items for the contest, including a basket.
One and two-bedroom apartments and bungalows are priced from £165,950.
On Easter Sunday, Wadswick Green retirement village in Corsham, Wiltshire, will have an Easter Egg competition for all the family.
And an Easter Bunny will deliver chocolate eggs to all residents. One-bedroom apartments start at £219,950 and two-bedroom flats from £395,000.
Inspired Villages are also organising an Easter egg hunt, decorating competition, an egg painting craft session plus Easter Sunday lunch at their Millbrook development in Exeter.
Throughout the Easter weekend, the village chefs will be serving hot cross buns with different spiced flavours. There are no properties for sale here now, but at any of the other Inspired Villages developments prices begin at £268,000 for a one-bedroom apartment (inspiredvillages.co.uk).
At McCarthy Stone’s Turner Place retirement development in Thatcham, Berkshire, there will be an Easter quiz and raffle.
‘We are fortunate to have such an active and thriving social community at Turner Place,’ says Mary Arnold, 72. ‘Everyone is so friendly and since I moved in last September, I’ve made some great friends.’
One-bedroom apartments are available from £255,000 and two-bedroom apartments from £385,000.
