Royal street names in Bristol and property prices there

The South West is said to be home to 276 ‘royal’ street names, of which 34 are located in Bristol. According to OnlineMortgageAdvisor, the right regal road name could add value to properties situated there.

The site utilised Streetlist and Zoopla to compare the average cost of homes on streets with regal titles to the average UK property, to determine if a royal name can increase or reduce property value. While there will be many factors at play in any one location, from the number of good schools and parks nearby to the proximity to amenities, they claim that some royal names can indeed add value.

Their research ultimately found that streets named after Her Majesty The Queen, The Duchess of Cornwall ‘Camilla’, The Duchess of Cambridge ‘Kate’ and The Countess of Wessex ‘Sophie’ boosted property values the most. However, streets containing the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, reportedly showed a £20,855 decrease in prices across 504 streets throughout the country.

In Bristol, the street with the highest average house price of those compared was Alexandra Road in affluent BS8, where property prices were £958,308 on average. In second place was Alexandra Park situated in BS6 with an average of £664,023, followed by Catherine Hill in Olveston with an average of £443,836.

The Earl of Wessex does make an appearance on the list, as street names with ‘Edward’ can be found in BS5, BS4 and BS15. Research only compared prices with the average UK prices, despite the fluctuation of property prices from neighbourhood to neighbourhood.

BS8 and BS6, for example, made the list but are known to be among Bristol’s property hotspots regardless of road name. The list also included streets that include a royal name but were obviously not named after that royal, such as William Jessop Way in South Bristol.
