Sussex house prices: Brighton, Chichester, Horsham named UK’s most expensive places to live outside London

Seven parts of Sussex have been named among the most expensive parts of the UK to live in.

The top 50 list – excluding London – measured how much house you can get for your money in every part of the UK.

Of the 13 districts around Sussex, a huge seven were named in the top 50.

One district – Brighton & Hove – was named in the top 15 most expensive places.

Two parts of East Sussex were also named on the list, while four West Sussex districts made the top 50.

Wealden, Lewes, Chichester, Mid Sussex, Adur, Brighton & Hove, and Horsham were all part of the top 50 list.

With an average property price across the nation of £271,368, this means that the average home has a cost of £2,936 per square metre.

However, properties in Brighton were found to be around 50 per cent more expensive than the UK average.

According to PlumbNation, an average home in Brighton & Hove costs £407,587, at a cost of £5,225 per square metre – making Brighton the 11th most expensive place on the list.

With an average median floor space of just 78 metres, Brighton has the smallest homes of any town on the top 50.

To find out the areas where you get the most ‘bang for your buck’ when it comes to buying a new home, PlumbNation analysed the figures on average property prices compared to the average size of a home in each area around the country.

Mid Sussex was Sussex’s next highest placing on the top 50, coming in at 28th with an average cost of £4,535 per square metre.

This is followed by Chichester in 29th and Horsham in 34th.

The most expensive area per square metre outside of London is Elmbridge, in Surrey, with an average cost of £7,110 per square metre, which is over £1,000 more expensive than the next highest area.

On the other end of the scale, the area where buyers get the greatest value for money in terms of floor space is Blaenau Gwent in Wales, where a square metre of property costs just £1,268 on average.
