But more and more it seems the price of houses in your area are what decide where you live, rather than your own choices.
The average price of a property recently rose above £250,000 for the first time on record.

This is thanks to an increase of £31,000 since the start of the coronavirus pandemic when stamp duty was suspended.

However, the soaring prices began before that following Brexit.
We scoured housing sites and took a look into just what you would be able to get if you were to drop a quarter of a million of your hard-earned pounds in various Sussex towns.
Rather shockingly (but not surprisingly) £250,000 doesn’t stretch quite as far as it used to when we conducted similar searches.
On the most part, you can now expect to land yourself an apartment with one or two bedrooms.
At times and in certain places, you will also be able to nab a small house – but breathe in as some of the hallways are on the narrow side.
Though with no let-up in demand, figures look set to rise further still as the dream of becoming a homeowner slips that little bit further away.
