Sudbury Valley Trustees, a regional conservation organization, is seeking to fill two TerraCorps/AmeriCorps positions for the 2021-22 service year.
These full-time, 11-month positions provide experience for anyone interested in a career in land conservation or community engagement.
TerraCorps is a Massachusetts-based organization that prepares emerging leaders to help conserve land for people and wildlife. It is affiliated with the national AmeriCorps program that annually engages more than 75,000 Americans in service at nonprofit organizations, schools and public agencies. TerraCorps Members receive a living allowance, an education award and additional benefits.
As a participant in the TerraCorps program, SVT has openings for a land stewardship coordinator and a community engagement coordinator. These positions will run from Aug. 30 to July 29, and will be based out of SVT’s office in Sudbury.
The Land Stewardship Coordinator will become an integral part of the Stewardship staff, which monitors and cares for SVT properties. The LSC will work on numerous stewardship projects, including the design and installation of an accessible hiking trail at an SVT property. In addition, the LSC will expand the “Ramping up Volunteerism” initiative by working closely with area land trusts and municipalities to recruit and train volunteers to fight invasive plants on local conservation lands.
The community engagement coordinator will work with the Development & Community Engagement staff to deepen relationships with current SVT members, as well as establish best practices for engaging new audiences, particularly the youth of the SVT region. The community engagement coordinator also will help to advance the work of SVT’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force to ensure the organization develops culturally inclusive systems, programming and partnerships.
