A picture-perfect village nestled in the Chiltern Hills which wouldn’t look out of place on a postcard has been branded one of the ‘best places to live in the UK’ – and you’ve probably seen it on your TV screen.

The last two years has seen many Londoners discovering the beauty of life away from the capital, with many choosing to move to rural and coastal towns in the Home Counties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

With streets lined with 16th Century cottages and home to a famous cobstone windmill, one such village is Turville in Buckinghamshire.

The tiny village has been named as one of the Telegraph’s ‘most desirable villages’ in the UK, as it features on its list of Britain’s 54 ‘poshest villages’.

Just 25 miles, or a 40 minute drive from London (Heathrow Airport), the stunning village has a staggering average house price of £1,463,240 – more than five times the national average.

There’s plenty to do in this hidden gem of a village, and you’ll probably notice some of the places from your television screens, with one iconic film and two TV shows having been filmed here in the past.

The Cobstone Windmill, which features in ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, is the focal point of the tiny village of Turville in the Hambleden Valley, which lies eight miles north of Henley-on-Thames.

The Vicar of Dibley fans can visit the actual St Barnabus Church (which is actually named St Mary the Virgin Church in real life).

London has it all – the best nightlife, food, drink, events, markets, everything!

It’s an incredibly peaceful apart from the occasional chiming of the bells.

More recently, the town has doubled up as the fictional village of Bletcham in BBC One spy thriller Killing Eve, starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.

Visitors can follow a steep footpath from the village windmill, before being rewarded with stunning views of the countryside at the top.

If you’re thirsty after that, stop by The Bull & Butcher for real ales and traditional pies which can be enjoyed outside in the beer garden or by an open fire, depending on the time of year.

Dogs are welcome, and booking is a must, reports TimeOut.

The Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery lies just a 50-minute walk from the village, where you can book a tasting experience or purchase your favourites.

Other than that, there’s little else in the way of shopping – but the natural beauty and gorgeous surroundings more than makes up for it.

If you fancy staying overnight to spend more time in the tranquillity of Turville, visitors can stay at a rustic 17th Century farmhouse – White Pond Farm, just at 10-minute drive from Turville.

Its grounds have appeared in Midsomer Murders, while the barn cottage costs around £400 for three nights, depending on the time of year.
