Beyoncé is the Queen Bee, but can she get Americans to quit their jobs? On today’s episode of The View, the show’s host reviewed the Houston, TX native’s new song “Break My Soul”, where the lyrics celebrate 47 million people quitting their jobs and finding employment on their own terms, a movement known as the Great Resignation.

Kicking things off, Joy Behar compared “Break My Soul” to the 1977 classic hit “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck. “We haven’t moved that far from that, have we?” She asked her fellow panelists. “If they kept up with inflation, it would be $26 an hour, so people are frustrated with their jobs — people have had it. They’re quitting. But of course, if everybody quits, we don’t have — much of an economy. So we’re hoping that people will have better jobs. But doesn’t this force employers to give people more money?”

Since the global shutdown, many Americans have resigned from their full-time jobs and discovered a newfound love for entrepreneurship, remote jobs, and more. Despite inflation increasing, people have put their mental health first and decided to take a leap of faith and gain financial freedom in other careers.

“On top of this, I just think it’s a good ’90s house vibe,” said Lindsey Granger, who was excited about the new single. “It samples ‘Show Me Love’, a really popular ’90s song, plus Big Freedia — you know ‘down south music’ I LOVE THAT!

“But, also, Beyoncé has been telling us what to do for years,” Graham added jokingly. “When she said put your boyfriend to the left… I don’t know about everyone, but the boyfriend went to the left. Now she’s telling us, ‘hey, quit your job,’ but like I understand and appreciate entrepreneurship but don’t jump out there and quit your job if you’re not in a position to do so — you’re not Beyoncé.”

Whoopi Goldberg cut the conversation short by explaining that Americans should be fighting for their taxes, since the laws have changed. “What you really need to be fighting for is less taxes because before the tax laws changed, people had a little extra in their pocket. You always had a little — and you saved a little. Listen, we need to change these tax laws because they are full of boo.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
