Summer is turning into a season for job fairs and other hiring initiatives.
Several large employers around metro Phoenix are seeking to hire staff in a range of industries including retail, health care, customer service and entertainment. Some will host special hiring events in the coming week.
Here are some opportunities for those looking for a new job:
Job fair for humans and their pets
Phoenix-based retailer PetSmart will hold a national hiring day on July 14 to fill retail and distribution-center jobs. Applicants may go to any store, and bring their pets, for interviews. The company aims to add 6,000 employees across its 1,600 stores nationally. Open positions include retail associates and grooming stylists.
PetSmart offers medical and dental insurance, tuition reimbursement and other benefits for some employees, including merchandise discounts of up to 50%. The company is looking to add more than 200 associates across its stores, at a call center and at a distribution center in metro Phoenix.

Openings for Coyotes games, concerts
Gila River Arena, home of the Arizona Coyotes, will seek to fill more than 200 part-time and event-staff positions at a job fair July 15 and 16 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the arena. The part-time help is needed to work Coyotes games, concerts and special events. Positions include those in security, guest services, parking and box-office ticket sales.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be able to work a flexible schedule that might include nights, weekends and holidays.
The arena is located at 9400 W. Maryland Ave. in Glendale. Job-fair attendees are encouraged to wear masks and should park in lot G and enter through Gate 4 on the north side of the arena. More information is available at gilariverarena.com.
SRP adding customer-service reps
Salt River Project, a large local water and power utility serving the Phoenix area, is hiring around 36 customer-contact representatives, including those with bilingual skills, initially to work remotely and ultimately at offices in Queen Creek and Tempe. These individuals will handle electric-service inquiries from SRP’s more than one million customers.

Macy’s seeking 500 retail workers
Macy’s is looking to hire more than 500 full and part-time workers at its stores and distribution and fulfillment centers throughout the Phoenix area. The department store chain will hold a hiring event July 15 at stores and fulfillment centers, generally from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
The hiring event that day will go from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Macy’s fulfillment center in Goodyear, where the company is seeking to hire 200 people.
Candidates may apply online in advance at macysjobs.com. During the July 15 hiring event, walk-in applicants may receive on-the-spot interviews.
Open positions include those in sales, merchandising, cosmetics/beauty, management, fulfillment and other areas. The company said it offers competitive pay, flexible scheduling, merchandise discounts and various benefits.
Hospital system to hire 1,200 workers
HonorHealth, a leading health-care system serving 1.6 million people around metro Phoenix, is seeking to hire more than 1,200 new employees across Arizona.
Available positions include registered nurses, other health professionals, information-technology staff and managers. Key expansion efforts include Sonoran Crossing Medical Center in Phoenix and the Bob Bové Neuroscience Institute in Scottsdale.
Compensation varies considerably by position. HonorHealth said it offers extensive benefits for part-time and full-time employees. In addition, the organization is offering hiring bonuses for some full-time positions ranging from $1,500 to $15,000, based on the job and experience level.

Bakery expands hiring in Phoenix
Café Valley Bakery, a company that makes muffins, croissants, Bundt cakes and other food products, is seeking to hire an undisclosed number of people at its Phoenix plant at 7000 W. Buckeye Rd. The company is offering starting pay of $15 an hour and said it is committed to raising pay over time.

Café Valley offers a fast-track program that allows entry-level staff to become supervisors in training within a year, with pay rising to as much as $20 an hour. Interested candidates can learn more and apply for positions on the career page of cafevalley.com.
Postal Service hiring 500 in Arizona
The U.S. Postal Service is seeking to fill roughly 300 jobs around metro Phoenix, plus 200 elsewhere across Arizona. Positions are available in many cities including Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Chandler and Gilbert. Hourly wages begin at $18.51 with benefits including paid leave, holiday pay and regular pay increases.
Open positions include carrier assistants, mail-handler assistants and mail processing clerks.
