Two arrested after burglary interrupted at property on Great North Road, Newark

Two suspects have been arrested shortly after a shocked homeowner stumbled across a burglary at a house he is currently renovating.

Police were called shortly after 3.30pm yesterday (Saturday) when the victim drove by the address in Great North Road, Newark, and noticed a van parked on the driveway.

After realising that items were being loaded into the vehicle, he challenged the driver and the vehicle was immediately driven from the scene.

It was pulled over a short time later in the Newark area when it was spotted by officers.

Two men, one aged 30 and the other 29, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and investigations are currently ongoing.

Detective Inspector Mike Ebbins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great bit or work by officers and control room staff who were very quickly able to identify and track this vehicle down.

“We take burglary offences extremely seriously and will always respond very quickly when a crime in progress is reported to us.

“I am pleased we have two suspects in custody for this offence and our investigations remain ongoing.”
