CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – There are resources that help people get back into the workforce following the pandemic or incarceration.

“We are seeing more people explore the the workforce again and it really is an individual conversation with every person,” VCW of Charlottesville’s Alicia Lenahan said.

She says at the peak of the pandemic, more than 90% of people who visited the center, were there with unemployment questions.

“For success for one person will be that first entry level job, success for another individual will be getting connected to a program that has a supportive employment opportunities and it is going to be a different story for every person,” she said.

At the Downtown Job Center, there’s a partnership with Goodwill that helps aid the re-entry process from jail.

“We work very closely with employers and the reentry programs to connect employment opportunities to those individuals who are coming back to the community, and who need jobs, they need jobs, obviously, to meet their basic needs, but oftentimes, they need those jobs to meet their the requirements of probation,” Lenahan said.

The program at the Downtown Job Center will provide people with paid training until they are ready for full time employment.
